Microalloyed Forging Steel
Microalloyed forging steels are medium-carbon steels with small additions of vanadium, and often sulphur, that reach their strength by controlled cooling straight after forging. They replace quench-and-tempered alloy steel in crankshafts, connecting rods and steering parts, saving the heat treatment step.
When to Choose Microalloyed Forging Steel
- The part is hot forged and cooled under control, with no quench and temper
- Crankshafts, connecting rods, steering knuckles or axle parts
- Fracture-split connecting rods (C70S6)
- Cutting heat treatment cost matters more than peak toughness
