STEEL PROCESSING / BRIGHT WIRE

Bright Steel Wire, Drawn to Your Size and Strength

OneKaizen draws wire rod of Ø 5.5–40 mm into bright steel wire from Ø 1.5 to 37 mm. We supply it in coil, in grades such as SAE 1006–1080, SWRCH, 10B21 and 100Cr6, for fasteners, springs and cold heading.

How We Do It

INPUT

Wire rod of Ø 5.5–40 mm in the grade you specify.

PROCESS

Bright Wire Processing

OUTPUT

Bright drawn wire, Ø 1.5–37 mm, in coil to your weight and packing.

  1. Select the rod. We match the rod grade and chemistry to your end product.
  2. Prepare the surface of the rod for drawing.
  3. Draw through successive dies to reduce the diameter to your size.
  4. Check diameter, ovality and, where specified, tensile strength and decarburisation.
  5. Coil, tag and pack.

Why Use Bright Wire Processing?

Fastener, spring and cold heading plants need wire at a set diameter, strength and surface. Drawing to order gives you that wire from the rod grade you chose.

When Should You Choose It?

Order drawn wire when your process needs a defined diameter and tensile range that rod cannot give. Order wire rod when you draw in house. To work out the reduction from rod to wire, use our reduction ratio calculator.

Common Questions

What is wire drawing?

Wire drawing is pulling wire rod through a die to make it thinner and set its diameter. It is done at room temperature, and the wire gets stronger as it goes.

What is the wire drawing process?

Rod is prepared, then pulled through a series of dies, each smaller than the last. The wire is then coiled. The number of passes depends on the grade and the reduction.

What is wire drawing used for?

Drawn wire is used for fasteners, springs, cold heading and formed parts that need a set diameter, strength and surface.

How do I calculate wire drawing reduction?

Reduction in area (%) is the starting area minus the finished area, divided by the starting area, times 100. Our reduction ratio calculator does the sum for you.

What sizes of wire do you draw?

OneKaizen draws wire rod of Ø 5.5 to 40 mm into bright wire of Ø 1.5 to 37 mm.

Which grades do you draw?

OneKaizen draws SAE 1006 to 1080, SWRCH, 10B21 and 100Cr6 among others. Send us your grade and tensile range.

What is bright steel wire?

Bright steel wire is drawn wire with a clean, smooth, bright surface and a controlled diameter, as opposed to black rolled wire rod.

How is the wire supplied?

OneKaizen supplies bright wire in coil, with the weight, packing and identification set by the order.
