Tool & Die Steel Questions
How do I select a tool steel grade?
Start with the tool's process, working temperature, wear, impact load and target hardness. D2 suits cold work dies, H13 suits hot work and die casting, P20 suits plastic moulds.
What sizes of tool steel do you supply?
Round bars from Ø 20 to 500 mm and flats from 10 to 500 mm thick, cut to your size. Tell us the grade and finished size you need.
Is D2 the same as 1.2379 and SKD11?
They are close equivalents, not identical. D2 (1.2379) and SKD11 are the 12% chromium cold work grades with small differences in composition limits.
Which steel is best for plastic injection moulds, P20 or H13?
P20 is the usual choice for general moulds because it is supplied pre-hardened and machines easily. H13 gives better wear and heat resistance for abrasive or high-volume moulds.
What is the difference between H11 and H13?
H13 has more vanadium and gives better wear resistance and hot hardness. H11 has slightly better toughness and is used where thermal shock is the main concern.
Do you supply high speed steel M2, M35 and M42?
Yes. OneKaizen supplies M2, M35 (cobalt) and M42 (cobalt) HSS as bar. Send us your size and quantity.
Do tool steels come with test certificates?
Yes. Every lot ships with a mill certificate showing chemistry and hardness, traceable to the heat number. UT is available by grade and order.
Do you supply tool steel across India and for export?
Yes. OneKaizen delivers to tool rooms and plants across India and exports to buyers abroad with export packing and documents.
Sizes, grades and tolerances above are our standard range. Other sizes and grades are available on request. Final values are confirmed against the order standard and mill certificate.
