How We Do It
Cold rolled coil, 0.3–3.3 mm thick, in CR1–CR5, DC01–DC04 or ASTM CS and DS grades.
Steel Slitting
Slit coils 50–1,600 mm wide, with clean edges and your coil weight and packing.
- Confirm the master coil, thickness, grade and the width list.
- Set the knives and slit the coil to width.
- Recoil to your coil weight, inner and outer diameter.
- Check width, burr and edge, then pack and certify.
Why Use Steel Slitting?
Your line runs on a fixed strip width. Slit coil arrives at that width, so you skip an in-house slitting step and cut edge trim waste.
When Should You Choose It?
Order slit coil when your press, roll former or tube mill takes strip, not sheet. If you need flat pieces of a fixed length instead, order cut to length. For the choice between hot and cold rolled coil, read our HR vs CR guide.
Common Questions
What is slitting?
Slitting is cutting a wide coil of steel lengthwise into narrower coils. Rotary knives do the cutting, and the strips are wound onto separate coils.
What is the slitting process?
The master coil is uncoiled and fed through a pair of rotary knives set to your widths. The cut strips are then wound back into coils at the weight and diameter you ordered.
What is coil slitting in sheet metal work?
Sheet metal makers buy slit coils in the exact strip width their press or roll forming line uses. It saves them slitting and trim waste in house.
What is CR coil?
CR coil is cold rolled coil. Hot rolled coil is rolled again at room temperature after pickling, which makes it thinner, smoother and closer in thickness.
What is the difference between HR coil and CR coil?
HR coil is rolled hot, so it has a scaled surface, thicker gauges and a wider thickness tolerance. CR coil is smoother, thinner and more accurate in thickness. Read our HR vs CR guide for more.
What thickness and width can you slit?
OneKaizen slits CR coil from 0.3 to 3.3 mm thick, into strips 50 to 1,600 mm wide.
Which grades do you slit?
OneKaizen slits CR1 to CR5, DC01 to DC04 and ASTM CS and DS grades.
What do I send for a quote?
