17-4 PH Stainless Steel Questions
What is 17-4 PH stainless steel?
17-4 PH is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel, UNS S17400, also called grade 630. It combines high strength with good corrosion resistance.
What do the conditions A, H900, H1025 and H1150 mean?
Condition A is solution treated and softer. H900, H1025 and H1150 are aged at 480, 550 and 620 °C. A lower ageing temperature gives higher strength, and a higher one gives better toughness.
What is the difference between 17-4 PH and 304?
17-4 PH can be hardened to a much higher strength by ageing, with similar corrosion resistance. SS 304 is softer, non-magnetic and easier to form.
What is the difference between 17-4 PH and 15-5 PH?
15-5 PH has better toughness across the grain and in thick sections. 17-4 PH is more widely used and easier to find.
What forms and sizes are available?

Yes. Every lot ships with a mill test certificate showing chemistry and mechanical tests, traced to the heat number.
