Nitriding Steel

Nitriding steels contain aluminium, chromium, molybdenum or vanadium, which form hard nitrides at the surface during nitriding. They give a very hard, wear-resistant case with minimal distortion.

When to Choose Nitriding Steel

  • Very high surface hardness is needed with low distortion
  • The part is a crankshaft, cylinder liner, screw or precision gear
  • Finished dimensions must hold after surface treatment
  • Wear and fatigue resistance are both critical
