SAE 4130, often called chromoly, is a low-alloy steel with 0.28–0.33% carbon, 0.80–1.10% chromium and 0.15–0.25% molybdenum. It hardens well, and its lower carbon makes it easier to weld than higher carbon grades such as 4140 and 4145. Typical uses are pressure vessel and tube parts, drilling and oilfield parts, shafts, fasteners, welded frames and roll cages.
OneKaizen supplies SAE 4130 as rolled round bars (Ø 16–500 mm), bright bars (round Ø 8–160 mm), forged bars (round Ø 250–1,030 mm) and shafts (Ø 25–500 mm), sourced from Indian and international mills and forges. Delivery condition is your choice: hot rolled, annealed, normalised, quenched and tempered (+QT), cold drawn or peeled and turned. OneKaizen also machines parts to drawing through partner machine shops. Every consignment ships with a mill test certificate.

Delivery Condition and Heat Treatment
SAE 4130 is supplied hot rolled, annealed, normalised, quenched and tempered (+QT), cold drawn or peeled and turned. In the quenched and tempered condition the bar gives a good balance of strength and toughness. Tell us the strength or hardness you need and we confirm what the mill can supply.
The carbon is lower than in 4140 and 4145, so 4130 reaches a lower hardness after quenching but is tougher and easier to machine. For heavier sections or higher strength, look at SAE 4145 or EN19.
4130 is widely welded, for example in frames and tube structures. Welds in thick sections need preheat and often post-weld stress relief to avoid cracking. Follow the procedure for your job.

SAE 4130 Questions
Is SAE 4130 the same as SCM430?
They are close, not identical. JIS SCM430 has a similar carbon range but higher manganese and chromium (see the table above). Tell us if your drawing needs the exact JIS or SAE chemistry.
Is SAE 4130 the same as 25CrMo4?
No. EN 25CrMo4 (1.7218) is only an approximate match, with a lower carbon range. Order 4130 against SAE J404, or tell us if the drawing allows 25CrMo4.
What is the difference between SAE 4130 and SAE 4145?
Both are chromium-molybdenum steels. 4145 has 0.43–0.48% carbon against 0.28–0.33% for 4130, so it hardens deeper and reaches higher strength, but it is harder to weld. Choose 4130 when you need to weld the part.
Can SAE 4130 be heat treated or welded?
Yes to both. It is quenched and tempered for strength and toughness, and it welds better than higher carbon alloy steels. Thick sections need preheat and often post-weld stress relief.
What is SAE 4130 used for?
Pressure vessel and tube parts, drilling and oilfield parts, shafts and fasteners, welded frames and roll cages, and lightly loaded gears.
What is the minimum order for SAE 4130?
3 tonnes, flexible depending on size and your situation. Send us your size, condition and quantity and we confirm availability and delivery.
What is SAE 4130 equivalent to?
SAE 4130 is the same grade as AISI/SAE 4130, UNS G41300. Close equivalents are JIS SCM430, KS SCM430, GB 30CrMo.
In which forms do you supply SAE 4130?
OneKaizen supplies SAE 4130 as Round Bars, Bright Bars, Forged Bars, Shafts, Forgings & Special Components, delivered across India and exported to buyers abroad.
Do you supply SAE 4130 with a mill test certificate?
Yes. Every lot ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing chemistry and mechanical properties, traceable to the heat number.
