Boron Steel
Boron steels add a tiny amount of boron to raise hardenability, so low-carbon grades can be cold headed easily and still reach high strength after heat treatment. They are standard for high-tensile fasteners.
When to Choose Boron Steel
- The part is a cold-headed bolt, screw or fastener
- Easy cold forming and high final strength are both needed
- A lower-cost substitute for alloy steel is wanted
- The part will be quenched and tempered
