Case-Hardening Steel
Case-hardening steels are low-carbon alloy steels that are carburised to give a hard, wear-resistant surface over a tough core. They are the standard choice for gears, pinions and transmission parts.
When to Choose Case-Hardening Steel
- The surface must resist wear and contact fatigue
- The core must stay tough under shock loads
- The part is a gear, pinion, cam or transmission component
- The part will be carburised or carbonitrided
