H11 is a 5% chromium hot work tool steel with 0.33–0.43% carbon, 4.75–5.50% chromium, 1.10–1.60% molybdenum and 0.30–0.60% vanadium (ASTM A681). It resists heat checking and keeps its toughness at working temperature. Annealed it machines at a maximum of 229 HB. Typical uses are die casting dies, hot forging and extrusion dies, mandrels, hot shear blades and aircraft structural parts and shafts.
OneKaizen supplies H11 as tool and die steel rounds in Ø 20–500 mm and flats 10–500 mm thick, rolled round bars in Ø 16–500 mm and forged bars in Ø 250–1,030 mm, sourced from specialist steel mills and forging partners. Delivery condition is annealed. OneKaizen also machines parts to drawing through partner machine shops. Send us your size and quantity and we quote.

Delivery Condition and Heat Treatment
H11 is delivered annealed, at a maximum of 229 HB, so you rough and finish machine it soft. It is then hardened and tempered to the working hardness your tool needs. Follow the tool steel maker's data sheet for the hardening and tempering temperatures.
For die casting and forging dies, ask for premium quality material, which has a cleaner and more uniform structure. Tell us your requirement and we confirm what the mill can supply.
H11 can be welded for die repair, but it needs preheat, a matching filler and tempering afterwards.

H11 Questions
Is H11 the same as 1.2343?
1.2343 (X38CrMoV5-1) is a close equivalent, not identical. Its EN chemistry is narrower than ASTM A681 H11: carbon 0.36–0.42% and molybdenum 1.10–1.40%. Tell us if your drawing needs the exact EN chemistry.
Is H11 the same as SKD6?
Yes, JIS SKD6 is a direct match for H11, as are KS STD6 and GB 4Cr5MoSiV.
What is the difference between H11 and H13?
H11 has lower vanadium and is slightly tougher. H13 has more vanadium, so it resists wear and softening better. H13 is the more widely used of the two.
How is H11 heat treated?
It is supplied annealed at a maximum of 229 HB. You machine it, then harden and temper it to the working hardness your tool needs. It can be welded for repair with preheat and tempering afterwards.
What is H11 used for?
Die casting dies, hot forging and extrusion dies, mandrels, hot shear blades, and aircraft structural parts and shafts.
What is the minimum order for H11?
3 tonnes, flexible depending on size and your situation. Send us your size, condition and quantity and we confirm availability and delivery.
What is H11 equivalent to?
H11 is the same grade as AISI/SAE H11, UNS T20811, JIS SKD6, KS STD6. Close equivalents are EN X38CrMoV5-1, DIN W.Nr. 1.2343.
In which forms do you supply H11?
OneKaizen supplies H11 as Tool & Die Steel, Round Bars, Forged Bars, delivered across India and exported to buyers abroad.
Do you supply H11 with a mill test certificate?
Yes. Every lot ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing chemistry and mechanical properties, traceable to the heat number.
Data compiled by the OneKaizen metallurgy team from the standards named above. Updated 27 October 2026. Equivalents are nearest matches; confirm critical substitutions against the governing standard and mill certificate.
