Tool Steel
Tool steels are high-carbon alloy steels for dies, moulds and cutting tools. Cold-work grades like D2 resist wear, hot-work grades like H13 resist heat, and mould steels like P20 machine and polish well.
When to Choose Tool Steel
- The part is a die, punch, mould or cutting tool
- Wear resistance at room temperature is critical (cold work)
- The tool runs hot, as in forging or die casting (hot work)
- The mould needs good machining and polishing (plastic mould)
